Truck Systems

We design and manufacture a complete range of truck systems to meet every application. From three-piece to premium, variable and constant damped, we have the truck for the job.

Utilizing our patented lightweight process, we have the lightest yet strongest trucks in the industry. That’s because our higher-yield B+ steel enables us to reduce weight by as much as 1,200 pounds per car set, without sacrificing strength.

Amsted Rail trucks are designed, tested and manufactured using M2+ Technology and M2+ Manufacturing processes. M2+ stands for Million Mile Plus and our trucks are consistently exceeding the million-mile barrier.

The Super Service Ride Control Truck is a constant damped design. Its wider friction shoe reduces wear and keeps the truck square, raising the hunting threshold. This reduces lading damage and helps prolong the life of the car, track and truck itself.

The Super Service Ridemaster Truck is variable damped for optimal light and loaded conditions. It will remain in service longer, without maintenance, than any other non-premium truck on the market, exceeding one million miles.

The Motion Control Truck, designed for M-976 and 286,000 G.R.L. specifications, features an advanced suspension system for exceptional ride performance and increased squaring for reduced truck, wheel and rail wear.

The high performance Swing Motion Truck is widely used on auto rack cars and boxcars for motor vehicles and other lading sensitive products such as paper rolls for the printing industry.

Also available from Amsted Rail are the AR-1 Steering Truck, Barber S-2-HD and S-2-E trucks and Frame Brace.

Designed to substantially exceed AAR requirements, Preload Plus long travel constant contact side bearings feature the proven preload retention of steel springs and exceptional wear life for side bearing parts and car body wear plates.

Draft Gears and Cushion Units

Amsted Rail Draft Gears and Cushioning Units have been providing the shock absorbing connection between the coupler and draft sill for many decades.

From small industrial and underground mining gears to full-sized freight car and locomotive gears, we have a gear that will meet your application. Our Cushion Units can be used in new car construction or for retrofitting existing cars. Whether it’s a friction gear or an elastomeric gear, end-of-car or center-of-car Cushion Unit, new or reconditioned, Amsted Rail is your one-stop source.

Couplers and Connectors

We manufacture a complete line of AAR-approved couplers and connectors to meet any application in the railroad industry today.

Whether your application calls for an E, F, Rotary Coupler, an Articulated Connector, or a Drawbar Arrangement, we can supply your need.

Draft Sills

Amsted Rail is the only supplier of complete—one part number—draft systems. This system approach takes end-of-car engineering to levels above the competition. Not only is a structurally superior cast sill supplied (when compared to traditional fabricated designs), but also the draft gear or cushion unit and all of its associated hardware.

The draft system arrives at the car builder completely assembled and ready for installation. One part to buy, receive and handle. These designs are available for any car type, new or aftermarket.

Adapter Plus Steering Pad System

Our patented elastomer pedestal pad/liner/bearing adapter design improves axle-to-rail wheelset alignment. Unlike conventional iron adapters, the elastomer pad allows controlled linear motion of the wheelset at a lower force going into a curve. Wheels can steer earlier, so curving improves and rolling resistance is reduced. This means considerably less wear to the sideframe pedestal roof, thrust lug, bearing adapter crown, wheels and rail.

Springs, Locomotive Draft Gears and Center Plates

Amsted Rail’s spring manufacturing is differentiated by its excellent process control, which assures consistency of dimensional, metallurgical and functional properties in final products. Our engineers have extensive experience in custom designing springs for the most demanding requirements.

Our Draft Gears have been the standard of the industry for more than 30 years. By utilizing our proprietary Key-GardTM elastomer, our gears provide superior buff and draft protection in even the heaviest locomotive applications.

Amsted Rail’s Center Plate is designed, manufactured and tested for longevity and reduced weight. We have made substantial improvements over earlier designs to provide you with lighter weight, increased strength and reduced installation costs.

Brenco Bearings

Already over 40 years have passed since 1962, when Brenco began manufacturing the railway bearing famous today as the tapered roller bearing.

Currently, Brenco specialists are working on expanding the Generation-2000 bearing class, the shorter length design of which was specially-developed to resolve the problem of extra axle deformations resulting in fretting corrosion and wear of the backing face of the inboard cone.

In addition, Brenco has designed and offers bearings for countries with 1520 mm railway gauge:

- with dimensions of 130x230x150 mm for mounting into the journal unit of passenger or freight bogies;

- with dimensions of 130x250x160 mm for mounting into standard axle box of freight bogie;

- with dimensions of 150x250x160 mm to be used with adapter in freight bogies with higher axle load.

All above mentioned bearings have been granted certificates by the Registry for Certification at the Federal Railway Transport (Russia) and GOST R (Russia) and are also certified in the UkrSEPRO System (Ukraine).

Official Brenco distributor in Russian Federation is EPK Trade House, Moscow Tel.: +7 (495) 775-81-25

Griffin Wheel Cast Railway Wheels

Griffin applies its unique process of steel casting under pressure to ensure steel pureness and uniformity of dimensions, such as disk and rim thickness.  Each wheel produced undergoes a complete and strict testing procedure.  The final product is a superior-quality cast steel railway wheel featuring durability of performance that provides for safe operation at temperatures ranging from -40°С temperatures in Canada to 55°С temperatures in Egypt.

Each wheel manufactured by the Griffin Wheel facilities in the U.S., as well as by the company’s international joint ventures and licensees, meets AAR M-107/203 and M-1003 requirements.  All active Griffin Wheel subsidiaries are certified under ISO 9001, including manufacture, design, and client service.
